Vendredi 10 novembre - Normandy

Plages du débarquement and Mémorial - by Casey Brzoska et Tiya Walls

This morning we arrived early at the school, at 8 am, to take a bus to Caen. We had a sunny day to look at the American cemetery overlooking Omaha beach, the site of the D-Day landings. The beach was very beautiful. Everyone enjoyed the beach even though it was the site of such great sacrifice for the American troops.

Then we went to the pillboxes, which were German bunkers for guns, at Longues-sur-Mer. They were very interesting and amazing to see. We were able to climb through the bunkers and touch the canons, which were still intact. Then we went to eat lunch at the museum.

Afterward, we all had a great time touring the museum and watching interesting videos about World War II. At the end of our tour, we watched a fantastic movie about the Battle of Normandy, highlighting the horrors of the final stage of the Allied invasion to liberate France. Overall, the trip was very informative and interesting.
